Re: Nervous about starting college
Sounds like me!
I'm Lucy and I starting having PAs when I was 14. In the end I had to stop going to school because I was panicking every day. So after taking my GCSEs at home I was terrified about going to college. I gave it a go, but I wasn't ready for it. Luckily my parents have been really supportive and on the first day of college my dad waited outside in the car for me, just in case I needed him- which in the end I did! (Don't know if your family might be able to do anything similar?)
Anyway, I'm now 19 and have been doing courses with the Open University from home for the past 3 years. I still suffer from anxiety and panic, but I am improving (just very slowly).
I'm not saying that you will not be able to manage college- but I just wanted you to know that if you can't cope with it, there are other options. If you put loads of pressure on yourself you'll just end up feeling even more stessed and anxious. Similarly, if you convince yourself that you will panic then you probably will, so try to be positive (I know it's easier said than done).
Do practical things like breathing techniques, distraction and remember that if you do panic you will survive it- people will be there to help if you want them and if you're more worried about them thinking you're odd (same as me!) people say they don't even notice!
I'm sure you'll meet some really nice people who just want to help and make you feel more relaxed, and if the first day doesn't go quite as you'd like don't beat yourself up about it- you can only do your best.
I hope some of that helped (I seem to have gone on a bit!) If you need someone to talk to then feel free to PM me anytime :-)
Good luck!
Lucy -x-
