Hello from a longterm anxious insomniac

    Hello everyone.

I have suffered from anxiety for many, many years. I first sought help in 2001 because it had brought on chronic debilitating insomnia. If I slept, my anxiety was kept at bay, but when it broke through the Zopiclone, I went to my doctor for help with the anxiety itself.
After 6 years of taking 20mg of Seroxat (30mg at the beginning), I started to withdraw slowly last September. A year later, I have decreased from 20mg - 2mg. 20mg down to 10mg was almost problem-free. 10mg-5mg produced phases of bad insomnia, severe anxiety, dizziness, brain "zaps" and various other symptoms. 5mgs-2mgs has been a dreadful experience, and the last three months have been a misery of anxiety, insomnia, panic and tearfulness, together with the physical symptoms described above.
Throughout my time on Seroxat I continued to take Zopiclone every night, and still continue to do so.
Seroxat dulled my anxiety to a degree, and lowered it sufficiently to allow the sleeping tablets to do their job. My reasons for withdrawing were weight gain (4 stone in 6 years in spite of regular gym sessions and healthy eating) and the prospect of the Seroxat eventually failing to work anymore, a common occurrence.
I am currently contemplating trying a Tricyclic, as I am no longer on a therapeutic dose of Seroxat, and my original symptoms are still there. I am hoping that people on this forum may be able to guide me with their experiences.

    Hi Sleepy,

As the other 2 have posted on here there is plenty of supportt here and everyone is so friendly and has a really good idear about what you are going throw,

i am on amatripaline (sorry about the spelling) and i do well on that.

i think may be the brain zaps are like anxiety as i get them when i am in a state not nice i know.
