    sudden cardiac death

    Hi guys.
My name is Joao and I'm from Portugal.
I've been sufering from panick attacks and anxiety since I was 19 years old , in the next month I'll make 23.
My fear started when I realize that a young and healthy people could die in seconds without no warnings , like football players and basketball players.
I've made 6 EKG and one echocardiogram, but all the tests were normal.
That doesn't mean that my anxiety was gone. She is still here.
During more than a year I couldn't get out from home, I were always scaried , reading about sudden death...and became to fear panic attacks , because I fear any relation between them and sudden cardiac death.
Last years Micklos Feher (a player from my football team) died during a game , and my concerned reach the highest top.
    I don't practic any kind of sports because I'm afraid of death , I don't smoke , I don't drink , I take Xanax , Psipax , adt25 and inderal 10mg.
I'm diferent from any guy of my age , because of my disease.
Sometimes I feel a little depression , because I've lost 3 years in the college and I can't manage with pression and stress.
That's my life ( something like life).
I would like to hear your opinions and advices too.
Thank you for this forum , that I had found yesterday.
    Bye

PS: Sorry if there are any mistakes and grammar errors , but I'm not english, althought I can understand almost everything and speak fluently.

Sorry for the size of my first post.

    Hora, Bon dia Joao Paulo,

Espero que estas bom esta manha

What you're experiencing is very usual once you've been in contact with this phenomenon, especially when you can draw personal comparisons.

The reality of this is that it is extremely rare but because of media coverage we hear about it much more and of course if you've experienced it personally then it will stick in your mind.

Several of these players were found to have congenital heart conditions and for a majority of the others it was over exercising that put too much stress on the heart with their 7/7 training.

The facts remain that moderate exercise does not cause this and indeed protects from it in many ways.

It is true that we could all walk out on the street and get killed by a bus tomorrow but we manage that risk by being careful and prudent as we go about our daily lives and keep some perspective.

Have you discussed this with other members of your club to see how others are dealing with it ?

Ate a proxima - toma conta.

    hello Joao Paulo,

    Welcome to the forum!!

Don't worry about your English - it is very good!!

Your fear is very normal amongst people that suffer from anxiety. I have a fear of epileptic seizures because it is an idea that is stuck in my head and I can't get rid of, like your fear of death. These fears start to control our lives; they stop us from doing things we would normally do like go to university, go out with firends, sports, etc. Have you tried counselling to help you with your fear?

    Hello Joao,

I think many of us here, including myself, feel that our life is not so good any more. But the key to that is to look forward and really focus on the good parts of your life that you still enjoy.

You may not play football or any sport any more, but do you go to see any matches?

I think it would help if you were able to watch games and this would train your mind that people finish the game alive and healthy despite your fears. Eventually you would recognise that and the fears would recede.

Perhaps you could start off by watching some other sport, maybe some people swimming or running in your town. Perhaps going to see a football match may be difficult for you to begin with, I don't know?

Hope to see you in chat room again very soon.

    Ray

    Hello people.
I'm so happy to found this forum.
Here I could meet people with the same fears that I always have. I didn't knew anyone before, and I were disapointed and bothered because everyone was normal except me.
I would like to thank all of you for your kindness, specially you florence , that I know a little more than the others.
    Obrigado.
