Sodium Valproate

Hi

Was wondering if anybody is or has taken sodium valproate. My phys is starting me on them next week along with seroquel.

Any inforamtion would be appreciated.

Hi Jacqui

I had never heard of it so just had a look. Basically it's an epilepsy drug, it works on GABA (a neurotransmitter that acts as a natural 'nerve-calming' agent) and restores balance.

It seems mental health professionals have noticed that it is also good for the treatment of bi-polar, and is a mood stabiliser.

If your phy has suggested you start on it then I would relax and give it a go

Depakote is another name. I used to have to take this for my Bi-polar, it is also brilliant for severe anxiety.
