    Incapacity Benefit ?

    Hi all,
I was In Iraq during the "Shock and Awe" bombing campaign, trying to stop the war from starting, and believe I have PTSD and have/could not work since returning to the U.K after that was over.
My question here can somebody advise.
Am I right in assuming that if I claimed incapacity Benefit,it would just be deducted from what little my wife brings in now and at the end of the day we would not be any better off.
My wife works part time and we are on a very low income with one child
    Thats how it works right?

    hi mate
i would try your local c.a.b (citizens advice) or welfare rights and
get a full check on what you are entitled to.you may be due some tax credits too.the system is very complex but these agencies are excellent for sorting it out. i was on incapacity for years(now back to work) and my wife was working part time and we did ok.
    all the best

What path should I take to claiming this benefit?
Would you suggest I go to my local doctor with this?or find a specialist for diagnosis?
    Thanx

I think you get the forms from your local jobcentre plus and I think you will need a note from your doctor aswell.

    Hi GreyBuffalo,

First step, have a word with your doctor and get a proper diagnosis, you can then get referred for more specialist help; as for the family tax credits make an appointment with your local citizen advice and they can help with that; as your wife is working and you have a child you should be entitled to that anyway and that should help ease your financial burden.
