    ectopics cleared up????

hey there all, hope your keeping well.

well what can i say, hmmm, i'l start by saying that i am totaly stumpt as to why my ectopics have or seem to have gone back into remission......

it seems and ive been keeping notes that since last august when this all started for some reason ive had three bouts of ectopics...... im able to go between 6/8 weeks without hardley having any....then out of the blue they start with maybe 6/10 for a few days then progress into plagueing me where i probably get between 80/120 per day.......now then the interesting thing is.......each bout ive had (3) the ectopics clear up in exactly an 8 day period, so on the 7th day of this im vertually at breaking point thinking i just carnt live like this anymore and they seem to calm a little.....by the 8th day they have stopped.....

At the moment im taking lansoprazole which is a bit of an experiment to see if the connection between the ectopics and the vagus nerve has any connection........i dont think it does in my case but will keep taking them for two months to see if it keeps the ectopics away.......i bin on this medication 5 days now, it takes a few weeks for it to properly start working....so this time its not the reason for the ectopics clearing up....

I just find it really wierd i have this 8 day cycle.........it seems the majority of people who suffer palpitations are women....mainly because of all the hormones ect....

Ive had all usual tests done....even pushed for a thyroid test, and everythings come back normal.....

I no anxiety can bring them on, but if that was the case with me i would of had loads before an operation i had 5 weeks ago......i didnt get a single one and i was brickin it.........so anx is deffo not the cause for me.......i dont get worryed when i have the palps they just really get me down.......

I would really like some feedback on this and your ideas as to what you think about this eight day cycle.....

    many thanks and take care

    chris

    Re: ectopics cleared up????

    Hi Chris,

Glad to hear that you're coming into a good phase... Thought I'd offer some feedback for you, it may be helpful to you and others. Plus, I need to let off a little steam myself...!

Firstly, the phases. I definitely agree on this. Perhaps not as specific as 8 days every time, but definitely get them in 2-6 week periods. Actually, I'm currently pretty fed up as my current spell has lasted since mid-December, so I'm well overdue a break. (I hope my heart is listening to this: GIVE ME A BREAK!) Anyway...

Secondly I was interested to hear of your medication. I've not heard of that one. As I'm taking propranolol at the moment, which is a beta-blocker. These have worked in the past for me, but I've been taking since November and it's not helped at all. In fact my ectopics have been going on longer and more frequently than ever before. I'm due to have my repeat presecription checked out in a couple of weeks so I may ask about other drugs. I'd rather be on no drugs to be honest - but I need something to feel like I'm doing something about it...

Finally, I would be careful to rule out Anxiety. As I often get my ectopics starting when they take me by surprised - for example when I'm eating in a restaurant. But doctors have told me, and I've read, that anxiety is different to panic and stress - they have physical symptoms and specific triggers - i.e. you panic if someone pointed a knife at you.... Whereas anxiety is a constant and lies dormant. You feel relaxed but really you are still anxious. So don't rule anxiety out completely...

I'm having a really bad few weeks and it's getting me down now. My emotions at the moment are: Fed up, Scared, Angry...

Fed up that there's no let up in the beats - therefore my anxiety levels are constantly high.

Scared, because no matter how often I'm told, if I get an attack of them I think it could be fatal and move to VF. The beats force air out so I can't breath properly, etc, etc... you all know the symptoms.

And Angry, because there's no cure. If you have a big nose and you hate it and it gets you depressed - you can have a nose job (on the nhs no less if you can prove it's affecting your life). But for ectopics - it effects my life in a negative way (don't want to socialise, claustrophobic, travel, can't exercise, etc...) but there's nothing we can do... oh well... Chin up!

    Sorry for the rant!
