    IBS or something else?

My GP thinks I may have IBS but I can't see how, as I don't have any bowel trouble atall. I have pains in my stomach below my ribs where it's quite tender and waves of nausia. If it is IBS, when is it going to go? Am I stuck with this forever????!!!!!!!

    Hi
I have IBS but no trouble with bowles, it affects different people in different ways.

Certain food types set mine off. Or tiedness also sets it off, as can anxiety.

Your Gp should be able to give you some advise on how to calm it, or even look up on the net or keep a food diary, it may help in finding out which foods can trifgger it off.

Tattybear - How long have you had it? I've had it constantly for 2 weeks. I'm having an endoscopy next week as 'm so worried. What symptoms do you have and do you feel sick too? What tips do you have to help me to get over it? Feeling horrid!

    Hi

Ive had it for years, as has my sister and her son.

I find that it comes on when im a little stressed or tired.

Also greasy food can set mine off as can bananas. Also white bread - I ry and eat wholemeal bread / pasta. Also fizzy drinks & caffeine can effect it.

It never effects my bowels, when I get it i always get an extreamly paniful stomach ache, it feels as though you've bee widned and it right under your ribs and its very very tender. And feel very sicky.

once i had the stomach ache, i normally get myself a hot drink of orange squash and lay down for a while to help yet rid of it. I have to make sure i eat regularly too, but the right kinds of foods.

IBS effect everyone differently - with my sister she has to constantly run to the loo every 5 mins!

    Try these sites :
    http://www.ibsnetwork.org.uk/
    http://www.medinfo.co.uk/conditions/ibs.html
    http://hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/h..._syndrome.html

Its nothing to be scared of and its extreamly common.

I can go weeks without noticing it and they I will feel it coming on.

    Hi Heeby

My husband has the same problem, he's due an endoscopy soon... sounds like your stomach is over-producing acid, an antacid should help with your symptoms, Zantac is a good one.
Don't worry about your endoscopy, I went to have one last month as I suffer with abdominal cramps...You can be sedated if you wish which could make it more comfortable for you.
Let us know how things go..
