Question for anyone that knows something about thyroid tests,,,please:(

A few weeks ago a blood test came back with low numbers for thyroid, they sent me for a scan of thyroid and found out it was a cyst, i have an appointment on monday so they called me and said i need another blood test just to make sure? Why????Cancer????? Freaking out here!!! I thought a cyst was not dangerous? Why would they wanna do another test if the scan showed it being a cyst? I'm SO Afraid they're gonna say the last blood test showed cancer! Please, if you know anything about thyroid tests and know why they want me to have another test, please let me hear it

    Hi

They probably want to see if your levels have changed in anyway. You are lucky you are just having a blood test, when they found 2 lumps on my thyroid they did a biopsy of the both with a huge needle right there and then, it was horrible, no anaesthetic or anything!

Both my biopsies came nack normal and recently my levels (blood test) have gone back up toward normal range. Thyroid cancer is very rare and the easiest to treat so please try not to worry!

Hiya, my little sister had a lump which turned out to be a cyst on her thyroid.....they keep doing blood test after blood test on her as the cyst hasn't affected her thyroid function, and they where surprised that it hasnt.

Do you know if the low blood levels where for something called TSH? or for T4?

I think the reason they'd want to do these tests is because thyroid cysts/nodules can affect hormone levels, also if T4 levels are low they might also want to do a more specialised check for thyroid antibodies....as this is what they did for me before putting me on thyroid replacement treatment (i actually have hypothyroidism). Also im thinking if they suspected any kind of growth they would have biopsied it immediately as that is what they did with my sister, mainly due to her young age. x
