    Acceptance

    Hi,

    I haven't been here for a while, but after the umpteenth visit to my GP, she has not me that I am not suffering from MS, ME or Fibromyalgia but anxiety. I have been suffering from aches & pains and tingling since January. My GP has advised me to lose weight (I am over weight), exercise (I used to exercise 3 times a week, but not at all this year), relax (I find it hard to relax) and to get on with my life. She says I have to trust her (and the other 2 doctors I have seen). I just find it hard to accept that anxiety can have such a physical effect on my body. I feel that I am in a perpetual loop and not getting any better. I don't feel anxious, accept when I worry myself about the symptoms.

    hi Stuart,

    Anxiety really can cause loads and loads of different symptoms from headaches, chest pains, upset tummy, sore eyes, etc. The list really does go on and on. Have you been prescribed any medication or referred to a counsellor?

    part of the recovery process is knowledge of the condition of panic and anxiety and mastering relaxation techniques. You will get loads of help and support here as well as making loads of new friends that understand completely how your feeling and give you loads of encouragement to get better again.

    Hi there,
    sorry you are feeling a bit low right now.. This anxiety business is hard work isn't it? I too never believed that 'just' anxiety could cause so many awful symptoms, but it is true. Please do as your doctor says and trust her, maybe start with gentle exercise? this in turn will help your weight, there is no hurry just one day at a time, and then increase when you feel ready. As for relaxing, gosh this is hard, but it will come, pamper yourself (if poss) and try a different routine to take away those awful thoughts.

    Hi Sarah,

    I have have had 2 bouts of anti-depessants, but the side effects (um....sexual) were awful. I have just finished a free 6 week session with an NHS councellor. He has said he would be willing to see me as a private patient. I have also seen 2 others privately in the past year. My problems started 2 years ago when I had to have a itchy mole removed and I scared myself to death reading about cancer. Since then I experienced various symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, chest pain, twitching, tingling, burning muscles, aching joints and eye pain. Can this all be anxiety?

    I have recently had a food intolerance test that showed I am yeast intolerant and lacking in various minerals. I am now on a yeast free diet that excludes alcohol, the one thing that helps me to relax! My doctor said the test is not worth the paper it is written on.

    Hi Stuart, |I feel like you mate...It's difficult to trust the GP when you feel all these pains and sensations and they haven't tested you for everything...I'm the same as you..scared of cancer...it was my heart last year! I know anxiety can cause some rediculous symptoms and I should no longer be fooled by it...but then when I get new symptoms my mind turns to morbid thoughts and so the cycle begins again..it becomes embarrasing to go to the docs doesn't it...but still u do and they tell us to chill and get on with our lives...well we would if the symptoms would leave us alone wouldn't we? Try a little thing that I do...when you relax (Ha!), talk to yourself with really positive self talk such as " I feel positively relaxed" when u breath out those long slow breathes...we need to retrain our minds to think positively...if all this negative thinking can make us ill, then surely positive thinking can remedy this...I'll try it if u will Stuart...lets see how it turns out...good luck, mate

    Hi Stuart I have a similar story to you. Yes it can all be anxiety. I think acceptance is the key to getting better. ( hard one to do, I know)
