    Dilemma - Solved!

    Hi

As some of you know I have got throat/swallowing problems. I have had a barium swallow which didnt show any throat obstruction. My doctor then sent me to a specialist who said that they would do an endoscopy - but the only thing is she sent me to bupa and it will cost £750! I cant afford that so I cancelled the appt - now I am in dilemma thinking that I should have just put it on my credit card as my swallowing isnt improving! I dont know whether to ring up tom to try and get teh appt back - does anyone have any thoughts on this?

    Thanks

    Helen x

    Hi Helen

I know it involves a waiting list but couldn't you have it done on the NHS?

The barium meal result was reassuring, yes???

    Hi Helen,

It is great that the barium swallow test was clear - Im sure an endoscopy can be done on the NHS but wil involve a short waiting list (my boyf had this done and only had to wait 4 weeks).

Maybe you could discuss this option with your GP so they can put a referal in for you?

    Hi

    Thanks for all your advice

Nigel - you are SO right about the money I could less than that geeting help for my problem. I e-mailed a speech and Language therapist and she was fantastic and explained exactly what I needed and told me who to ask my GP to refer me too - its the first time someone seems to have understood my problem! So I am going to go and ask for a referral tom.

Tatty B and Piglet - thanks for the advice about the NHS I will ask my doc about that too. I did find reassurance from the barium swallow but I think the problem is its been weeks since I've eaten anything solid I almost feel like I've forgotten how!

I am crossing my fingers that this week will be productive and that I can start getting the help I need!

    Hi

My doctor was away today so I saw a different one who was great! She went through all my notes thoroughly and has referred me for an Endoscopy on the NHS just to be sure but she has also referred me to a speech and language therapist. The great thing is that she has referred me for both so I dont have to wait for the endoscopy results before I can get help with my swallowing.

I am feeling more positive today as I feel things are starting to move in the right direction!
