Yesterday I was shopping in Lichfield with my mom and daughter. We had just come through a passageway which has one of those tiled floors when we suddenly heard a loud crash. We looked round and a lady had fallen to the floor and was fitting. We ran back to see what was happening along with two men that had been sitting on a bench in the passageway.
The lady had cut her head on the hard tiles and was bleeding, although not badly. I shouted had they called an ambulance and the elder man said he would. The younger man was holding the womans head and she continued to fit for about 3 or 4 minutes. I hadn't done first aid training for a good 10 years but it all came back to me and I helped the man put the woman into the recovery position and we supplied some tissues for the womans head wound.
I remembered to keep talking to the woman, something we had been taught on first aid training. She was very confused and unable to understand what had happened and also was unable to recall her name.
The paramedics arrived within a few minutes and we then went on our way.
I hate the sight of blood and I also hate seeing things like that happen but, because we were there and had to deal with it, I did so without any panic at all. I panic and feel anxious about such silly things but when faced with a real event it showed me that I can cope a hell of a lot better than I give myself credit for!
