Sorry to repeat but need some advice

Has anyone else suffered tension type headaches on Citalopram and have they been continuous? I am into week 9 and these started about four weeks ago and won't go away. I have taken parcetamol, had a head massage but nothing seems to be shifting it.

I suffered headaches for upto 3 days at a time, these started from week 5 on citalopram. I have had this about twice since but they have become less in the last few weeks. During the time I couldn't get any relief from medication, I just had to relax as I put these headaches down to stress tension. Its all down to cit side effects, another reminder that your body is still adjusting to the meds.

i do not take any meds, but i get tension headaches from anxiety. they can last weeks off and on. it might be from your meds, but it could be just the anxiety. mine feel like i am on an airplane and the pressure is usually behind my sinuses.

Thank you both - it doesn't help that I have health anxiety - I always think the worst!

How long have you been on citalopram now?

Yes, I went through the "citalopram headache" stage twice over a period of 8 weeks. They were like semi-permanent tension headaches but felt strange and slightly different to the headaches I normally suffer with. They started off minor and became quite intense. They were much worse when I became very anxious.

Paracetamol is weak against tension headaches. Only ibuprofen make a dent in them - but you must not take ibuprofen while citalopram is in your system - so there is little you can do against the headaches except wait for them to blow over.

After around eight weeks on citalopram they settled down. Now I only get my normal number of headaches.
