    Positive Affirmations!

Ok, well, I did say I may start this thread, and since I have been here all day with little intention of moving, I thought I may as well do something constructive.

The idea is to start a thread where everyone can add to a list of positive affirmations.

If anyone doesn't know what affirmations are then here are a couple of quotes from one of the earliest books I read, Feel the Fear and do it Anyway, by Susan Jeffers.

    Affirmations:

    <b id="quote">quote:</b id="quote"><table border="0" id="quote"><tr id="quote"><td class="quote" id="quote">I am breaking through old patterns and moving forward with my life.
I am now creating the perfect relationship.
I am finding the perfect job for me.
I am now handling all my fears.
    There is nothing to fear.
I am creating everything I want, easily and effortlessly.
My world is filled with abundance.
I am now creating a healthy and radiant body.
I am filling my life with peace and joy.
I allow my mind to relax and let go.

    <div align="right">Feel the Fear and do it Anyway</div id="right"></td id="quote"></tr id="quote"></table id="quote">
    A couple of pointers:

    <b id="quote">quote:</b id="quote"><table border="0" id="quote"><tr id="quote"><td class="quote" id="quote">Always state affirmations in the present.
Wrong: I will handle my fears.
Right: I am now handling my fears.

Always phrase affirmations in the positive, rather than the negative.
Wrong: I am no longer putting myself down.
Right: I am becoming more confident every day.

    <div align="right">Feel the Fear and do it Anyway</div id="right"></td id="quote"></tr id="quote"></table id="quote">
These are the first ones that come to mind for me as they were the first ones I ever came across 8 years ago and still remember them well. Since then I have discovered many more (many more useful ones too, to be honest I'm really not keen on most of these ones anymore ) until eventually you develop a habit of creating your own for any giving situation.

I believe Affirmations can be an enourmously powerful part of your practice encouraging not just positive thinking, but the positive thinking that leads to motivation, which in my mind is one of the most important factors in recovery.

In which case a comprehensive list of Affirmations sounds a good idea, right?

    So, what's your positive affirmations?

There's more examples of positive statements from this website here:

How to cope with Panic Attacks, Anxiety, Phobias and OCD

    Please add to the list.

When we have ample amounts, then I'll copy and paste them all into one post so we have a long list.

P.S. Nic, I did really intend to lay down quite a large list here myself when I started this, then started wondering about copyright laws, since most of these, including the ones above come from copyrighted sources. When you start copying people's entire web-pages, I thought that may be pushing it a little.

However, I will try and think of some of my own in time. Or I'll just sneakily take random ones from different web pages, no one will know

Ah, thanks Nic, I knew this had been done before, but I done a search and nothing came up.

Here’s the list from that thread. I’ve slightly edited some so that they are more like self-affirmations rather than general quotations:

If I can change my thoughts, I can change my feelings

    I am a worthwhile person.

    I can and will succeed

Fall down seven times and stand up eight

If I think I can do it, I know I can. If I know I can, then I will.

You cannot change the past, but the future is where you have to spend the rest of your life, so make sure the future is something to look forward to.

My safe place is within me, and wherever I go I take it with me (I quite like this one)

Instead of saying I can’t, say I can

When it gets too hard remember the good times, they are still there

JFDI (You can’t deny the direct authority of Meg’s popular favorite!)

Strength comes from within, I will never lose that.

To find inner peace..STOP LOOK AND LISTEN.......to yourself

Asking for and needing support isn’t failure, it’s the start of the road that leads to happiness.

    More please ..

    Hi

Ok, here are a few more ....

I deserve to be happy and successful
I have the power to change myself
I can forgive and understand others and their motives
I can make my own choices and decisions
I am free to choose to live as I wish and to give priority to my desires
I can choose happiness whenever I wish no matter what my circumstances
I am flexible and open to change in every aspect of my life
I act with confidence having a general plan and accept plans are open to alteration
It is enough to have done my best
    I deserve to be loved

    Nice one Nic.

Seeing as I started this thread, I thought I'd better add some myself. Rather pitiful attempts I must admit, but hey, I'm trying. Once you've been using these a while and you get into the swing of it, it becomes easier to make them up as you go along so as they fit the situation you are in at the time. After all, it's just positive thinking, and this is learning how to think positively.

These affirmations will allow me to positively influence my unconscious mind
These affirmations will increase my motivation
    I am strong
    I am equal to others
    I can be creative
    I can be positive
I do have the energy within me
    I can achieve my goals
I can start on my goals now
    I am full of wisdom
    My experience grows everyday
I can get better, I am getting better
    I am making progress
    I am handling my fears
I accept that these fears will not disappear in an instant, but with practice they will leave of their own accord
I am challenging myself in a positive way
    I am a success
I can make a decision with the knowledge that it will be the right one for me
I am taking responsibility for my own actions
I can feel my vitality grow
    I celebrate my progress
    I am moving forward
I am making a new life for myself
    I am challenging myself
    I can do it
    I can do this now
    I’m full of life
My compassions towards others continues to grow
    I put 100% into everything I encounter
I appreciate the goodness that life has to offer me
I understand that each of my actions makes a difference
