shaken up after doc's appointment - ladies only please

not posted here for a few days as things have been a bit better but had a doc's appt tonight for a bit of a sore lump/spot "there", been there for four weeks now but I've been agravatting it I think by squeezing.. Finally plucked up confidence to see Doc who had a 30 sec look- and instantly proclaimed that I had an infection and has given me the 500mg + 125 mg antibiotics.. I don't think it's infected? I'm sure it's swollen because I've squeezed it a fair bit... Should I take the anti-b's anyway as a precaution or could they cause problems if I don't have an infection? Worrying now :( I told her it was sore which it is - but due to the whole thing of having to bare myself to the doctor I was shaking because I was so nervous, but she decided this was because it was so sore! Oh well, what does everyone think, should I go ahead with the medicine anyway?

Worried about what the anit-b's could do but then I'l be worrying if I don't take them and I do have an infection..

Hiya if your doctor said its infected, its best to take the tablets. The last thing you want is for it to get worse. x

Can I ask why your not sure on taking them? Is it because your pregnant or your like me, a bit worried on taking tablets? xx

It's just the tablets thing, I'm so scared that I might be alleergic to penicillin or that if you take them without an infection they'll have an adverse effect.. I try even never to take paracetomal or cough mix or anything just incase.

I've been sitting in tears, it's the combination of first having to be examined (which I really don't like) and then all the worries about anti-b's..

I've got a spot down there as well suddenly developed about 6 months ago and has never changed - I saw my Dr who said it was just a seb cyst like previous poster and as long as it didn't become infected to leave it alone.
She said you would know if it was infected as it would throb all the time and get alot bigger and red and angry looking so maybe have a look or get someone else to have a look at yours and see if its okay - I have a husband who can do this thankfully. Dr told me it could just disappear on day on its own or stay for years

thanks everyone I took a pill last night at half ten, and then one at quarter to nine this morning but I was going to take one just now and panicked that I was going to OD on them accidentaly - and threw it in the bin. God I hate this, I'm now reassured that I'm not allergic but how do I get over the OD thing - they're 625mg and that's what panicked me in the first place, cos they're huge...

I don't think it's a cyst as I've had them before it was more of a lump that I squeezed, nothing happened other than everything swelled up and I ended up bruised; which is what the doc said last night, that I was very swollen (sorry, it sounds horrible but oh well)

oh, I just looked it up online and it says only every 8 -12 hours, oh no, what have I done? I took one at 3 to leave 6 hours, should I call out of hours? Please help?

I take it these are co-amoixclav? So you take the morning & night?
It will not hurt you if you have not followed the rule. Your post isn clear so what have you taken?

yeah co-amoxiclav, pack says three times a day, but net says only every eight hours.. I took one at quarter to 9 and one at 10 to 3, I'm so worried now!

If the prescription says three times a day then you take that- thats what teh doctor thinks is necessary for you & remember its checked by a pharmacist a specialist in medicines so if they thought it wasnt correct then they would have said. Please ignore what it says on the internet its generalized information!

So take one when you wake up, one around teatime so 5ish & one at bedtime- that will be fine!

The fact you have take it a few hour early isnt going to hurt you, just next time spread it out more- 8hrly !

I am going to relate a funny thing that happened to my mum who was a chronic sufferer of HA for many years and had a particular fear of taking prescription pills.

She got some painkillers from the doc for backache. She read the leaflet first, and of course paid particular attention to the possible side effects listed. These included shortness of breath, nausea, disturbed vision and palpitations.

Later that evening, driven mad with pain in her back, she took to bed after first laying out her pill doze along with a glass of water. She woke suddenly, paralysed with fear as she began to feel the onset of all the side effects - her heart raced, she felt sick and saw stars. She began to gasp for breath. Then she noticed the pill still sitting on her night stand and realised she had fallen asleep before taking it. Bless her, she did see the funny side because you've really got to be able to laugh at this HA misery sometimes or we'd all go crazy.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, it's amazing what our own minds can do and sometimes I think they're far more dangerous than any prescription meds. Certainly I've taken co-amoxiclav many times for UTIs etc and had absolutely no ill effects at all. I also totally agree with Nicola's post that taking them at approximately 8 hourly intervals is fine, with a little slip up really no big deal.
