    OCD and panic

I posted on another forum but figured Imight as well post here.

Does anyone have this type of OCD....my OCD has no rhyme or reason and it could change at any point given my fear---LET ME ILLUSTRATE:

I am washing dishes, the thought goes through my head ' YOU ARE GOING TO THROW THESE DISHES AND GO INSANE AND POSSIBLY KILL A FAMILY MEMBER'

this thought leads to having to re-wash the dish as many times as possible until the anxiety from that thought dissipates.

I might then turn to walk to the kitchen table and then BOOM, I have to re-walk and trace my steps whatever amount is necessary ( LATELY 5 has been my number ) to get the anxiety from that horrific thought from turning into a full blown panic attack........

I have this under intense stress and if u read my other post my latest fear is going insane and strange depersonalization and unreal feelings.

But I do things infrequently like having to touch things over and over,
use a certain amount of brushstrokes while brushing teeth, saying and repeating phrases in my head over and over to keep these thoughts from triggering intense panicked and 'out of control' feelings.

Or I might be writing a letter and all of a sudden the thought comes across that I am about to completely lose my mind so I better re-write the sentence over and over to avoid this.......

My point is there is no rhyme or reason ---it can come out of the middle of nowhere as it has done while typing this.....

what is this I mean does this sound like OCD? It's awfully distracting and sometimes I have the strength to ignore but other times I have to obey these compulsion type deals.

    any thoughts are apprecited,
    Starlet

It sound like it might fit the discription have you reserched OCD much there are plenty of web site with the diagnostic criteria on them.

I'm no expert on it but I have read a lot of site's if you really feal it discribe's you going to a dr and talking to the dr about would be a good idea. There are med to help OCD. I was put on a OCD/anti depressant med for my anxiety and I have a huge scratching habbit for at least 6year now and I realy only realised it was out of control 3 year's ago when my I keeped hurting my self while I was scratching and I still couldn't stop. After one dose I felt amazing more in contro and after 3 dose's I was back in full control and no longer just scratching or fighting the erg to sratch.

    Starlet,

A important thing to note is that you are still able to resist these compulsions at times and nothing happens.

You need to keep up that pressure on those compulsions and bit by bit prove to yourself that they serve no purpose at all and that they can be dropped.

*I am washing dishes, the thought goes through my head ' YOU ARE GOING TO THROW THESE DISHES AND GO INSANE AND POSSIBLY KILL A FAMILY MEMBER'

this thought leads to having to re-wash the dish as many times as possible until the anxiety from that thought dissipates.*

Alternatively , wash the dish, dry it and put it away instead of rewashing it.
The original thought about throwing the dish and hurting someone is not unusual, I had that one too but am pleased to say none ever got broken and noone got hurt.
