    CBT_Social phobia success!

    Hi all,

Just wanted to let people know that CBT has been amazing at turning my social anxiety around, if you get the oppurtunity to get this then I would 100% say go for it. I've had about 10 sessions and already we are talking about finishing off the counselling sessions as they have gone so well. Just keep positive about it and trust your new found thinking processes and thoughts!

Good Luck to all, there is hope!!

    Thanks for all your replies,

Just thought I'd share this, I found when I was struggling to cope with anxiety that I struggled to find a solution or some way of coping, but combined with the medication and cbt I have some light. My only worries is coping when I come of the medication, but I guess I could say that that is the final hurdle!

    Let the fight continue!

Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is commonly treated with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), a form of therapy that first became popular in the 1980s and 1990s for treating anxiety disorders. Research has shown that CBT is one of the few forms of therapy that reliably helps in overcoming clinical anxiety disorders.
CBT is not one set method but rather a combination of various techniques that depend on the disorder being treated. For example, CBT for treating depression will be different from CBT for treating SAD or other anxiety disorders. Because there are so many different techniques, it is important that your therapist is experienced in using CBT for treating SAD, and knows which particular techniques are most effective for this disorder.

    Thanks allangering,

It sounds like you know your stuff! of course CBT works for all types of anxiety and depression and there are different treatments, at the time when i was reffered for therapy I was pretty much in despair, I didn't know if I was ever going to get better or not but after 5 months (3 of which off work!) I am finally getting there, I'm still not 100% but everyday is a challenge!

    Hope you are well!

My anxiety was GAD to start with but as it developed it became more SAD! Be open with your assessor about your anxiety, when I went to see the assessor I was on a good day (temporary at the time!) and thought I wouldn't get any treatment, but I just explained how much I struggled in set situations at home, at work and socialising, and the assessor put me forward for CBT. It took 3 weeks from then until I got my first CBT session, I was really surprised at how quick the process took, but really happy at the same time!

    Hope your assessment goes well!

Im on the list for CBT, and am waiting on an appointment time.

Waiting list is months off though.

Glad it worked for you. I would love to hear more about exactly what CBT involved for you.

Good job LionKing, CBT was what helped me and my life has never been better. make sure you keep using the CBT tools to get it more ingrained in your and you will continue to make progress I still counter my thoughts in my TEA forms almost everyday.
