i overcame my phobia

for about 10 years or more i had a terrible phobia of rats to the point of i was scared of the word my friends if they were goin to mention rats would say star (rats backwards) and that worked until i worked it out! but one day after id tryed to go camping with some friends and had to walk home to my nans house at 2am as someone had said the word rats i decided i needed to do something about it!
i asked my mum to get me a pet rat, she ofcorse wasnt sure about this but we lined up a home for her incase it went tits up.
i put the cage under my bed and mum put the rat in.
as the cage was shut and i was on the other side of the bars i felt safe
i named her daisy
i dont know what happened but she looked really upset so i picked her up out of the cage shaking and crying but making myself do it i put her on my shoulder, she moved towards my face and i froze, she licked my tears! for the next 2and ahalf years daisy lived on my shoulder and hardly ever went back in her cage!
since daisy ive had 3 other rats and have nearly totally overcome my phobia after so many years!
i know i like to read things with happy endings, so i hope this gives at least one of you a smile across you face and realise if only for a second its not impossible

What a nice story! We've had four pet rats and we loved them all. They're such great, clean, friendly little pets - despite what everyone thinks! How brave of you to do this and how great the outcome. You must feel really good.

its one of my biggest achivements to date! i just thought it would be nice to share a good experance with you all unfortunatlly i havnt managed to be this brave with the rest of my life but baby steps are better than no steps

wow! thats amazing! well done! I wish to god i could overcome Emetophobia but short of people or myself constantly being sick so i get totally use to it i dont know how to overcome it!!! Youve made me want to get a rat too! bless! x

maeanna i would defo say get a pair of rats! and on the note of your phobia rats are perfect for u as they cannot be sick! if u need any advice on pet rats just inbox me! x
