Numbness, tingling, pins and needles

Dear Friends,

For the past week or so I have had numbness in my left cheek all the way down to my lip. I also have numbness in my hands and feet accompanied by tinglings 'pins and needles' sensations. It's very distressing and alarming to feel this kind of numbness in both my face and in my limbs. I've organised an appointment with my GP (I haven't been yet) but I feel very scared and worried about what might cause such alarming symptoms.
Any words of reassurance or posts from those who have experienced similar symptoms would be GREATLY appreciated.

hi yeh i too get this and its scarey my doc and phyc told me its all part of anx try not to worry i no its hard but i found the more i worried aabout it the worse it got but just mention it to your doc anyway so at least he no about it

Hi Springblossom

I get the tingly hands and feet too - usually when I think about driving any distance or when I'm actually in the car - for me it's like my personal 'alarm' that I'm starting to feel heightened panic. By all means discuss it with your Doc but don't worry, it is just a symptom (not an abnormality, nor something which means you have something wrong with you physically) of wretched anxiety!! Grrrrrrrrrrr!

yeh i got numbness in my face infact i have it right now cause i just took my first anti de lol

I saw my GP today.

He couldn't say categorically what was causing the facial numbness but suggested a trapped nerve as the relflex and eye checks looked normal.

I'm thinking if by tension one's shoulders are raised up surely this could compress nerves and interfere with the musculature of the face, lip, ear an neck.

Does the 'tension' theory sound logical?

when u say numb, do u mean actually numb? Or when u touch ur face u can feel it and get a pins and needles sensation? Also is it there constantly, never goes away?

The tension theory is good, could be a trapped nerve, i possibly might have the same my arm feels like someones been sitting on it

I've had this in the past... feels almost like a tingly face mask when it happens on my face.. the skin feels sort of tight? Ive had it in my face and even on my scalp and also the tingling in hands and feet particularly when feeling anxious. The first time it happened to me on my face/head i thought i was having a stroke.. now if it happens i tend to ignore it and it passes.
