Why isn't it working???

Hi,
Have been on Citalopram 40mg's now for the past 8 weeks-slowly increased from 10, 20, 30 and now 40mg's-am on this for severe panic attacks and feeling low in mood.
i honestly cannot see a difference in my mood at all-am still feeling low, very irritable, not patience etc and to top it all-last night was woken at 2am having a massive panic attack-vomiting, frightened, palpations-I felt awful.
Will be seeing my GP this morning but just wandered if this is actually not working for me?
I did take a 2mg's diazapam when it happened and this calmed me down but now I am petrified it's going to happen again-and I honestly feel like I cannot cope when I feel these symptoms.
Any advice?

Hi Turkeychick, I would like to ask what other therapies/self-help you are using in addition to citalopram, as medication doesn't make much difference on its own. You need to find ways to identify the causes and triggers of your problems. I have found CBT, counselling and hypnotherapy to be highly useful, as well as inositol supplements. I use the Samaritans just to vent when I am going through a "blip".
