is there a quick way to find out if anyone has posted on a thread that you have commented on? or is that what the subscribe to threads are? if u subscribe do u get notifications then? or do u just have to seach for what uve posted on?

Yes you do need to subscribe to a thread if you don't want to miss any subsequent replies.
If you subscribe to a thread it will ask what sort of notification you want - via email etc.
