Tramadol and Citalopram

Hi Guys

My mum suffers really badly with her anxiety at this time of year as does everybody. However, for the last 2 years she has been ok and has been on Citalopram.

She had a fall a month ago and the Doctor has only just realised that he is still prescribing her Tramadol at 4 tabs per day!! He has taken her straight off them without any explanation as to what might happen. She is now concerned that this has affected her Citalopram.

Can anybody help me with this one please?

It doesnt affect the Citalopram .But it will make you more groggy and could have caused a syndrome as it was a high dose ,,She will probably feel the effects of withdrawal for a few weeks and if they are too much for her she needs to speak to her Dr ..Dont fret she will be ok ,You would know by now if she wasnt ..All the best Sue

This is what annoys me with some GPs. The combination of citalopram and tramadol is not good because of the risk of causing seizures and hypertension. But it's a relief that she has been taken off the tramadol now.

The citalopram wouldn't be affected - it's just the combination of drugs that was the problem - so don't worry, now she's off the tramadol she should be fine.
