Severe Lower Right Side Adominal Pain can it be the Citalopram?

I started on Citalopram 10 days ago and the side effects have been not too bad up to now, the only thing is for the past I have a severe pain in my lower right abdomen, it is constant and even waking me up at night,do you think this is the Citalopram? has anyone else experienced this? I really dont want to stop them so I hope it is not them causing it. I had minor stomach pains when I started them but nothing like this. Its freaking me out a bit and causing a bit of anxiety.

    Hi Megan

I dont know an awful lot of citalopram, but no medication should be giving you severe pain, It could be any number of things, for example it could be something as simple as constipation, but i think you should make an appointment to see your gp for it to be assessed.

I hope it improves for you soon

I wouldn't have thought it was the medication. It could be something like constipation, irritable bowel, but a persistent pain should be checked out by your doctor. You'll only worry about it if you don't.

    Hi Megan

I hope you are feeling better today?

I agree with the other posts here, if this pain is causing distress its worth getting it checked out

I remember when I started taking citalopram, I got an upset stomach. I do have ibs, so whether taking medication caused a bit of upset to that -- but I did get some pretty grizzly pains for a while. But to put your mind at rest its worth mentioning it to your gp

Abdominal pain is listed as a side effect of citalopram but I agree with other the posts here that you should go to the GP because they will be able to prescribe you something for the pain and make sure it's nothing serious, which I doubt it is.

Been to the Docs this morning and turns out I have a urine infection, so that was causing the pain, funny how you blame the citroplam for every niggle you get.

On another note does anyone know if you can take Nytol one a night with Citroplam, I occasionly take them when I cant sleep but not sure if I will be able to now.
