    CBT - How, and where?

    Hi all

Coming off Escitalopram at the mo and thinking of other options for maintaining the little sanity I've managed to build up to now.

This CBT stuff sounds ace - I did a bit of neurolinguistic programming at uni (careers advisor used to be a shrink!) which worked wonders so I think my mind is very open to this sort of thing.

Can the doctor get me into it? Does it cost money? Can I get it on the NHS considering I'm a bit nuts?

    Any advice welcomed!

To which he replied "Yes, until I realised I'm not that important".

    Best advice I ever had.

In answer to your question - yes you should be able to access a CBT therapist via your GP within local NHS provision (therefore it won't cost you anything). Depending on your current difficulties and local circumstances, you may be referred to an IAPT worker (Improving Access to Psychological Therapy). They will deliver manualised CBT, usually for "straight forward" anxiety and depression.

Alternatively, again depending on local provision, you may be referred to a nurse or clinical psychologist who have training/expertise in CBT.

Whichever path you go down - I wish you well.
