It would be good to find someone like a psychiatrist or a psychologist who'd devolve a bit of his time to these forums (maybe something for the mods to consider? Or for each one of us to ask our doctors?).

I really wish we could have professionals on here but they don't want to give their time for free I am afraid.

I have looked into this before and most want paying and as the site is self-funded then it is so hard to find the funds to pay for it.

I asked my hypnotherapist once to come on and do a spot and she said she would happily do it for a fee.

I wish we could find some doctors or therapists to come on - I really do.

We have had a Dr ( retired ) from the USA come on this year .She hasnt been on in a while tho .She was if I remember correctly suffering herself .I dont think she was a Mental Health specialist tho .More a general Med Dr .She gave very thorough answers ,but a few members couldnt understand the medical jargon and found it difficult to comprehend some of her answers . That Dr does still come on every now and then but it's a "he" lol.

He is a heart specialist and dealt with palpitation posts mainly - very helpful though - retired and was over 70

Yes I understand that professionals do not want to do it for free, however, it could be perhaps sold to them as a sort of free advertisement for their practice.

They could have a link to the website of their private studio and if members see they are willing to give up their time to offer advice and the advice makes sense, I am sure many would then follow that up in private (and paying!) on a 1-2-1 basis. I am thinking perhaps about young physician who are trying to start up their practice and still don't have a solid patient basis.

I just think that many of us get to see many professionals because of this and all it would take is for each one of us to ask.

All the so-called "professionals" with whom I've consulted over the past few months haven't had a clue about anxiety or depression. All they seemed intent on doing was fobbing me off with anti-depressants and telling me to come back in a month. One of these "doctors" was genuinely surprised when I informed him that my anxiety levels had sky-rocketed during my first week of citalopram. He told me that people usually complain about over-salivating and drooling!!!

My point is, had it not been for the support of others who had experienced what I was going through then I would have been yet another statistic in terms of those who had tried an SSRI and given up due to the side effects. "Blind leading the blind" infers people who don't know what they're talking about - my experience of this website and the people offering support and advice has been quite to the contrary.

My challenge to anyone, is to find a trained professional who sincerely gives a damn and doesn't view their patients as just another number - good luck with that! If you've indeed found this extremely rare breed of physician and are fortunate enough to be under their care, then you probably already appreciate just how lucky you are.

I wasn't trying to criticise these forums in any way, they are quickly becoming for me an invaluable tool of support for the hard period I am going through.

As I said earlier, I am well aware that the emotional support from fellow sufferers is just as important (if not more!) than the recommendations of our physicians.

Mine was just an idea for an ADDITION to the emotional support offered here of a more academic nature by someone who had studied the issues we are all experiencing, that's all.

Therefore Viva NMP indeed!
