Re: Do i need to give sertraline a chance ?
Hi. Different SSRIs can have different side effects. I tried citalopram but it made me feel sick which made me panic because I am emetophobic. I started taking sertraline and had no real problems except for clenching my teeth at night which gave me headaches during the day and crazy vivid dreams. I'd say you've got nothing to lose really by keeping taking it. I found it took a few months before I felt the full effect, after about 6 weeks I started to notice that when I felt low and I didn't stay feeling low for as long but it is only now that I am on 100mg that I have noticed an effect on my anxiety symptoms. When I first started taking it, I was taking temazepam to help me sleep, which helped initially in the short term. There are other antidepressants available, the older tricyclic ones such as amitriptyline, which tend to cause drowsiness rather than the waking in the night which SSRIs can cause, so might be worth asking your doctor about. I take 5mg of amitriptyline to help me to sleep which also helps to relax me.
