Know any good books for depression??

    Hi everyone,

I have a friend at work (no, really, this is for a friend) who is suffering from severe depression--enough that he's been off work for almost 2 months now. I am meeting with him tomorrow to try to help him out, but my "specialty" is anxiety. So I'm wondering if any of you have any good book recommendations that I could pass along to him? He is on the usual looong waiting list for councelling, so I think that books would be useful for him now!

    Thanks in advance,

    Lisa

Look in the advice section of the fourum you should get some good hints on self help material there. My advice when you see him is to just be yourself and dont let him get on a downward spiral. A good visit from a friend will do him the world of good.

    Hi Lisa

I would recommend 'How To Lift Depression Fast - The Human Givens Approach' by Joe Griffin and Ivan Tyrrell.

It is easy to read and provides straight forward, practical advice for tackling depression.

This post is a message of hope from personal experience, not something to be scared of.

I have been admitted into an institution with severe depression (due to anxiety mainly but nevertheless depression). It is much better these days for many reasons and one reason is a book called stop worrying and start living. It is a depression book although its title sounds like its about anxiety.

Medication is often needed too, depending upon what type of depression. But this book is great! Easy and small and works.

if it helped me, it can help anyone.

It is called stop worrying and start living by richard carlson. It is all about thinking and how to change thinking to be less depressed. sure medication may be needed also but you need thinking skills too to recover.

    you can find it here:
