Does Citalopram become ineffective the longer you take it?

I started on Citalopram 2 years ago and seemed to do really well. I was originally on 20mg, and the dose was increased to 40mg following a relapse earlier this year. Once again, the increased dose seemed to really help to take the edge of anxiety and yet 3-4 months later I am back to feeling panicky and depressed.

I went to sleep trembling last night and woke up trembling this morning! I seem to be on edge much of the time and the slightest thing can cause an attack. I'm wondering whether something about me has changed (tho not sure what) or whether the medication has become ineffective.

i am also thinking this ive been on it a few years and to be honest i feel shit on them so i just decided to get off them coz if i feel down and anxious on them maze well feel te same off them i am on 5mg i now take 5mg 1 night 2.5 the next weening off these meds is shit but my advise to any1 wud be dont take the shit in the first place coz its nearly impossible to get off

I'd personally have to say that it's more hell getting on than getting off... My "withdrawl" side effects were actually kind of humorous, in my opinion. While when I was starting, the side effects were downright frightening.

However, I have no idea whether they become ineffective after time... I was wondering that myself... Perhaps we should ask our doctors.
