    :(

Im very sad. I need some help. I came here becuase, I think I may have OCD, for you see, I have been for the past 6 months been on Zoloft, Ativan and seroquel to sleep at night, due to my insomnia. But just recently, I started thinking about harming myself, or worse. My life is great, my job is good, and I just period don't wanna die, or kill myself. But, every time I try to fight the thoughts, of suicide they come back. And I am getting very down and scared. Could someone please lend me an' ear? Thankyou mates.

    Hey mate,

It sounds like the thoughts are scaring you and making anxiety.

I had the same thing although at times I actually was very suicidal and was hospitalised at one point recently. Dont let that scare you - I was very depressed and had a plan that would have been carried out I DID want to die at the time - the thoughts comforted me). I still get thoughts now sometimes and they sound like yours but they are now just thoughts and scary but not a plan as such. It is the worst feeling ever but with perseverance and training, you can overcome it like me.

One thing to remember, if you dont like the thoughts, then it is mostly scary obsessive thoughts that create anxiety and not that you are really going to do it.

If the thoughts scare you, it is generally not bad BUT if the thoughts comfort you or you feel it really is the only option or you have made a plan, then talk to a specialist immediately!

Remember, thoughts cannot hurt you. It is the way you interpret them.

    Thoughts are thoughts.

I used to be so scared that I was going to hit people but it was merely an obsessive scary thought. I was so scared that I was going to and anxious that I realised I was not going to actually do it and I never have (in 5 1/2 years).

If the thought comforts you, then you need to seek help but if its just a scary thought that you are afraid of, generally its part of ocd/anxiety.

P.S. Dont try to fight it or it will be worse, dont try to forget it or you will think about it more. Just accept it and it will eventually go away for longer and longer.

You said yourself, you dont want to die so I think they are merely scary thoughts recurring. The more you focus on the scary thoughts, the more depressed and hopeless you will feel.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Jonathon,

Welcome to the forum, you will get a lot of good advice here and make some new friends.

Stay positive and remember that these are just thoughts and they cannot harm you, when you get these thoughts, try to think of other things, something that has made you smile or something you enjoy doing. Turn those negative thoughts into positive ones.

    Take care
