19 year old on cipralex, Couldnt get it up one time...

Im 19 years old, working out keeping a healthy life style and diet but what can i do i fell into depression this year , my gp prescribed me cipralex 10mg which i take every night before bedtime for 7 months now, i never had any sex problems but suddenly today ive lost my erection and i have noticed decreased libido(which has been since i started cipra) i dread this might reoccur.

I am really worried this will turn into ED in the future, i plan on stopping cipralex this month but am terrified cipralex was detrimental to my long term libido. in addition to that ive gained a quite a lot of fat.

I would suggest that you make an appointment to see your gp.
Perhaps there is a medication that would work for you but doesn't have these side effects.

Cipralex will not be detrimental to your long term libido. All the best. Baggs.

Aragorna, I would just ignore the reply from brianthesnail, which was ignorant when you are obviously very anxious about this. I would say for someone your age to have erectile disfunction its probably a side effect of meds. Unless any other (young) men with this problem as a symptom of anxiety without the meds would correct me on this. Like already suggested, have a chat to your doctor about this as he/she would be the person to advise better on it.

Let us know how you get on

Loss of libido is definitely a side effect of medication. ED can occur as a result of low libido or can happen on its own due to anxiety/depression recurring. In someone of your age it's likely to be one of these factors rather than something irreversible like organic disease, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Meds can also make you put on weight but as Sandy said, I would speak to your doctor about trying another med that may suit you better. Be careful about suddenly stopping. Make sure your doctor is happy for you to do this and that you gradually taper it if you do decide to stop.
