    Low Lymphocytes count - grrr just want to have a moan

    My doctor called me today following blood tests on Monday and she said my Lymphocyte count is very low and she wants to repeat the blood test tomorrow.

    She was concerned that it is low because of the medication I am on for Crohn's disease and the last thing we want to do is stop that medication following my very severe flare-up last year.

    She said she has been trying to call the Crohn's nurses at the hospital for advice but was unable to get through so she will try tomorrow and get them to call me.

    Basically the Lymphocytes are an indication of the immune system and because it is low I am at a higher risk of infections, cancers, tumours etc whilst it is so low.

    It is one thing after another at the moment so I didn't need this added stress but hey ho that's life I guess.

    Let's hope it all works out ok in the end anyway.

    Just wanted to update people and have a moan cos I know you all won't mind.

    Nic, I have been researching boosting the immune system because of Jer having to have his lymph nodes removed and have found that vitamin E and milkthistle both boost the immune system.
    Maybe you could ask your doc about taking these.
    Also I found this...

    Freeze-dried Selected Vegetables (DSV), a freeze-dried mixture of vegetables and herbs sold in the United States as a dietary supplement . DSV is reported to contain the following ingredients:

    * Soybean .
    * Shiitake mushroom.
    * Mung bean .
    * Red date .
    * Scallion.
    * Garlic .
    * Leek.
    * Lentils.
    * Hawthorn fruit .
    * Onion.
    * Ginseng .
    * Angelica root .
    * Licorice.
    * Dandelion root.
    * Senega root .
    * Ginger .
    * Olive.
    * Sesame seed.
    * Parsley.
    This is also supposed to have immune boosting properties and used a lot in Chinese medicine.
    Just thought I'd throw those out there

    Re: Low Lymphocytes count - grrr just want to have a moan

    Thanks Sandy - I will look into that.

    Got an update today. The doc called to tell me that my level was currently at 0.8 and it should be 1.5. Previously I was at 1.3 and 1.1.

    Anyway the Crohn's nurse called and said that the level was ok and nothing to majorly worry about and she had known people have a level of 0.3 with no significant risk.

    So the Crohn's people are happy with that though they do want to see the full set of blood results so they can check for anything else untoward.

    I also have to send them 3 stool samples (nice job lol) and they will check for any infectons etc.

    The nurse told me to avoid any stress at the moment until things settle down. Sometimes that is easier said than done but I am trying.
