    Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Awhile ago, I posted that I've been having pains in my lower abdomen and some other problems...

In January of this year, I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. They say it can be caused by stressed... which is easy for me cause I stress out a lot and get anxious over a lot of things.

I'm on medication that helps the pain, as well as medication for anxiety/depression.

I just want to know who else is dealing with IBS? Is it common for people with anxiety to get this?

And does anybody have any suggestions to help me to get over the past? That's a serious problem with me. I just can't seem to let go of the past and I can't forget... I'm so confused and upset.

    Can anyone help?

    Hi

IBS is common in people with anxiety, or at least being anxious can aggravate IBS. I have this problem too.

Have you read this article about IBS on the main website page?

Hi Looks like rain and welcome to the site, I suffered IBS for many years before being diagnosed. It was really bad at one time as I was getting real bad tummy pains, Feeling really bad, running to toilet all the time and even passing blood. It’s not normal to pass blood with Ibs but going to the toilet all the time caused lemuroids. I tried all types of Medication, Diet change and relaxation but nothing really seemed to work. Then I was sent to a specialist for some tests, a barium enema, Sygmoidoscopy (that’s a camera to look at my colon) Blood tests and a chest x-ray, I really thought I had bowel cancer and so did my GP at one stage and I think that thinking this way raised the stress and just made my IBS unbearable. Anyway after the results of the tests came back and I knew for sure I had IBS and it wasn’t nothing like cancer etc I felt much better. So I think try and think positive and keep repeating good affirmations to yourself (Tell yourself you feel good over and over again and deny the anxiety) and this in my opinion with bring the IBS down. Now I know for sure there is nothing big wrong my IBS is just about gone. Hope this helps and you feel better soon. Vernon

Hi, I suffer from panic attacks & anxiety, my daughter has just been diagnosed with IBS. Thinking about it, we both worry over the same things. I can see her coping with life exactly the same as me, which at times hasn't been so good. My daughter is only 17, found out about the IBS during exam revision, she had a lot of pressure put on her because she was doing 10 GCSE's but also got picked by her tutors to do a couple of A levels a year early. She hasn't managed the IBS very well, I put it down to poor diet, you know what teenagers are like lol! So, I can definitely say that IBS is linked to anxiety, although my daughter isn't on meds for anxiety, just meds for IBS. Good news in all this, she passed all her exams!!

    hi all
i suffer from IBS too, and mine is definitely anxiety related, but i followed a diet for a while that stabilised me and now i rarely have any problems, have a look at:

    www.helpforibs.com

the diet is thoroughly explained on how it helps with ibs and is easy to follow, i dont need to follow the diet now, but if i have a bad fews days i know what to eat to sort myself out and its reassuring to know that i can do that any time if i need to.

    hope it helps!
