I would like to introduce myself

    Hi,

I have sufffered from panic attacks for over 18 years now and although I have learnt to live with them, they have never completely gone away.
My panic attacks start if I have to go anywhere that I have not been before, or driving long distances, the reason I get panicky is because I worry incase there are no toilets. When I have a panic attack I need to get to a toilet quickly and if I can't it just gets worse. I hate my life like this, I used to be a very confident person and could travel on public transport and go anywhere but not any more. I would just like it to go away and get my life back again.

I think this site is wonderful and I am hoping it will help me to start to overcome my problem. Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Hi Pippa and welcome.

Many people on hear share your fears, you are definately not alone. Have a look through the old posts, you can use the search facility at the top of the page.

    Hi Pippa

    Welcome to the forum.

Perhaps you might like to start by reading the First Steps information.

CBT is cognitive behaviour therapy and there is more detailed information here.

Your fears about needing the toilet are very common and there are some posts on the forum about this if you have a hunt around. One of the Site Admins might have access to a list of topics they could post here.

I hope you will find the help and support here to enable you to start challenging these fears and move on to recovery.

    Hi Pippa,

Welcome to the forum, you will get a lot of good advice here and make some new friends.

CBT helps us to change the way we think, and really can help you overcome anxiety and panic attacks.

    Take care

    Hello Pippa,

You are certainly not alone with this. You do need to figure out whether this need is real as in IBS or an imagined fear that subsides once you know there is a loo nearby.
