I believe creating managable short term goals, as well as those long term goals we would like to achieve when recovered.

I have two long term goals. The first is to train to become a therapist and set up my own business. And the second goal is to meet a friend for lunch. This second goal might not seem like a big deal but suffering from an eating disorder getting to the point where I actually want to eat and can enjoy food will be a big deal.

Shorter term I am setting and attempting to achieve goals all the time. These goals started from simple things like turning up to a day clinic for treatment, which was scary for a number of reasons, including having social phobia. Other goals and challenges have been sitting in on group therapy sessions, to actually facing my fears of speaking and contributing to the groups.

Each small goal and achievement is important and it helps to build confidence to acknowledge these achievements. One day I will achieve my long term goals.

    Hi Robert,

Since having panic & anxiety I have managed to get on 3 flights. 1 to Gran Canaria & the other 2 to Florida - however, all 3 x I was ill for weeks before it worrying myself about it - there were times before it that I had visions of me not being able to get on the flight & watching my hubbie & children go without me!!! And while on the flight? Panic, panic, panic! We are booked again for July. So, what I would like to be able to do is not have a single worry about going on holiday - I would like to be like other people & just look forward to the flight & holiday (like I used to be able to) without panic & anxiety - and to go on a flight or the motorway without a panic & anxiety going with me!!! That for me would be heaven!

    That is a great question,
Funny enought I was thinking this the other day.
How strange life will be with out Anxiety/ocd, it will be like something is missing.
I know I could have a much better life.

If I didn't have Panic Disorder, my life would probably not be much different. People who know me know I am a fighter, and I don't give up easily. I think I would just be happy to not have to rely on medication and have less worry of potential attacks...because they usually come on without warning or a trigger. So I guess, I would just have less stress...other than that my life would remain not to different....and I guess when I think of it...my PD is not THAT bad...it is just a real pain in the A$$ that I would like to be rid of.

I would love to teach jewellery making!

i would set up my own workshops and rake in the money lol.

But I have started selling jewellery that i make on ebay...its early days but i have sold in the past 2 weeks ,1 beaded charm bracelet and 10 pairs of earrings. Have just listed mobile phone charms made with rose quartz (dont know if they will take off ?)

Just imagine I could charge £10 a lesson, have 30 people in each lesson..ie: make £300 for 2 hours work,
this anxiety /panic dissorder really is frustrating, I could hold 3 classes a week and be RICH!

    Hi Andrew

Great post - In Oct 2000. when I began to get better, a psy nurse asked me to write a list of the things I would like to do if I hadnt panic, anxieyt, agoraphobia. I wrote two pages full. Ive kept all my writings and diaries over the years and this morning I got out this list and i will give you a few things that were on it: Drive my daughter to school, Relax in a bath, Wash dishes, Keep house tidy, Make a meal, Lose weight, Go out for meal, Go to cinema, Go shopping, Put something in outside bucket, Go on holiday, Get back driving, Socialise with friends, Go to college. When I showed this list to my nurse, he looked down the list and said "lets start with one thing" and we chose "Put something in outside bucket". I wanted to try the cinema, holidays, pubs, normal things but this was where I was slipping up, you have to take one small thing and work on it until you are doing it with no anxiety. The day I opened my back door and put something in the bucket, I felt I had climber Everest - I had done it. I will add that over the years I have done everything on that list, I have been abroad and I am booked up to go in July again, I am doing voluntary work and I have just applied to do a Counselling Course at College. I also do presentation talks to health professionals and people who are suffering from anxiety and I am proud of what I hava achieved. I would urge everyone to write a list so you can refer back and see in writing just how far you have actually came.

Praise yourself when you have done something and be proud of yourself.

With determination and courage we will all get through this and you learn to appreciate more.

    Take care

Thanks for all your replies so far it is good to know what we all want even if it is simple. THis condition gives us all more of a cring side and it is funny how so many of us want to help others with our conditions.
