Increasing medication - does it help?

Just wondering if increasing an ssri is of benefit.

I am on 10mg of lexapro a day and the max is 20mg. Dr said to increase to 20mg as anxiety often needs more med (higher dose) than depression does.

But the side effects of increasing an ssri causes anxiety too.....

I am confused. Should I increase dose slowly maybe to 12.5mg day and then maybe 15mg until I find a good point and if worse, drop back to 10mg etc? Find the point myself that works?

Often dr's just increase dose etc but I think everyone is different with meds and how much they need etc.

Also, read the study on lexapro and it says 10mg to 20mg a day in studies, there were more side effects but the 20mg a day didnt show any real improvement over 10mg... But that was for depression.

Does any increase sound right, as its for anxiety?

P.S. I have had almost no side effects on lexapro. Well none at all really and I am getting happier and the anxiety is a little better (apart from my recent acident and the fact I cant run now) but there is something missing. I am still scared etc.

I've had a few increases and have seen the benefit. I think it's worth a go, slowly, to figure out which is the right dose. I know it can be a nighmare, but hang on in there. It took me a year to find the right tablet and then the right does,
