My quit day (cigs that is)

My quit day is 15/01/11 have tried (and failed) so many times.

I have the patches - start tomorrow - another crutch I need to get rid of.
Anyone with advice or also hoping to stop would love to hear from you.

    Need loads of encouragement.

    Thanx in advance

Good luck, you can do it!

I smoked for over 20 years and stopped in May last year when I was anxious and had health problems. Haven't had a fag since, though some days I really would like a smoke!

You can do it, make your mind up and stick to it!

Re: My quit day (cigs that is)

I'd been thinking about it for months, asking trusted family and friends how they stopped. Then I lost a beloved Uncle to lung cancer and I saw for myself the damage that smoking does and how horrid the treatment can be. Not trying to scare you, it's just what happened.

I decided to stop one night, and the next day stuck to it. I took the chewing gum and lighter out of my handbag, they were my associated "tools", then when I wanted a fag, I told myself to wait 10 minutes to see if it would pass. The urge always passes!

I did look at patches, gum, fake fags etc but all that stuff made me cross as it's just as costly as cigarettes AND prolongs the nicotine addiction. Stopping also helped to reduce my anxiety as nicotine made my heart race a bit.

    Hope it goes well!

Oh, I also tell myself: "I'm a smoker who chooses NOT to smoke today".

That seems to work for me as it's not too final or challenging.

    Thanx again Hazel

I am the only one in my family and my OH who smoke.

The worry is my mum (who never smoked in her life) has had 2 heart attacks in the last 2 years.

I just have to do it this time - it feeds my anxiety and that is just no good.
