Do larger people have larger organs?

I am sure I have mentioned some of these things before but anyway, I am 6ft5 and had a lung x ray about 5 years a go. I was told that my lungs are 35% larger than the normal size persons, this got me thinking.

    I realised some things:

    1. my doctor told me that I need 3000 calories per day, not 2500.
    2. I was able to eat huge meals and only be a bit bloated (not really anymore but thats a different story)
    3. My 'poos' were always about 1 foot long and 3 inches wide.
    4. I was able to fill a whole 2 litre bottle with urine (tested one day).

From the side of one shoulder to the other is nearly 60cm.

This might sound like an odd question but I am just wondering.

    Hi,
I don't know the official answer to this question, but, I am a nurse so I'll try and answer to the best of my knowledge.
If somebody is overweight, their organs are usually larger, not for any other reason than they are covered in fat.
If, however, like you describe, you are generally a larger person all over (6 foot 5 is well above average height), then I would think that your organs must be bigger. If your heart were the size of a smaller person then it would have to pump double hard to get the blood and oxygen around. This is only my opinion though, u might get the answer if u google ?

I reckon they must be, otherwise you'd have extra space inside your body!

yeah you would because you are tall.
with people who suffer from that giant disorder growth disorder, because they keep growing they often suffer with having large organs.

Re: Do larger people have larger organs?

Hi Piers. My son is 6ft 1 or 2 and not thireen until the end of February. His estimated height is between 6ft 5 to 6ft 7ins. He has size 11 feet. I definitely agree that his organs will be in proportion to his body. He eats large adult sized meals. He is tall but this does not make him big. He is average weight for his height. I haven't had him measured recently so don't know how tall he is. I'm 5ft 11ins. Years ago when I was having gynae treatment they needed to find a larger speculum because the one they were using was too short. Vaious scanners when I was exepcting my son could not display him completely as he was too long. It would make sense that our hearts, lungs and liver were bigger that the average person but neither of us are overweight. EJ.

larger muscle volume will hold more glycogen (sugar) and each molecule glycogen holds 3 parts water, liver holds glycogen as well with the same water thing (siz y low carb diets have initial water weight loss)
