Coming off Cital after 2 years on 20mg

Here we go again, back on the 5mg seeing as I am happy at work, the weather is warm and sunny and I am feeling good about myself.

This artical was mainly started as a diary for me and my feelings but I am glad people have seen it as an aid.

That's about a week on the 5mg, I actually feel pretty good, more alert than 'normal'.

I am completely off Citalopram, this is my second day. I am more aware of my actions and I am slightly more anxious in my thinking - but nothing bad.

Been tired during the day, going to bed around 10pm but waking up between 4am and 6am.

This is likely more about anxiety than the diminishing amount of med in your system. Antidepressants have no direct on anxiety (or depression) in the way benzodiazepines do. They work by physically changing the brain and those changes will remain for some time, hopefully forever.

Feeling good, been a lot more active lately. Mountain biking, walking, running, generally doing more around the house too.

Libido is back.

Ten days off Citalopram.

I've been waking up between 4am and 5am each morning.

More irritable, short tempered.
Clearer head, more focussed.
More impatient?

More energy, restless.
Libido is back, having sex more often and thinking about it more.

Not really as anxious as I thought I would be.

And just before anyone says it...
I know it's early days, I've been here before. It'll be at least sixty days before I know I'm out of the woods.

I've been a bit down the past couple of days. My girlfriend asked me about an hout ago what was wrong with me, I replied 'after ten years on Antidepressants I've come off them and it's bound to have an affect on my mood.

Ten minutes ago she again asked me what was wrong with me, I replied that I'm a bit down for the same reason I explained to you an hour ago...

She wasn't happy with that and said "I'm only asking"

I said you already asked the same thing not an hour ago.

She said "you don't have to speak to me like that"

I said I do as you didn't listen the first time.

We then had a big argument and she said "Well maybe you should just go back on them if it makes you like this"

Not a very caring and considerate attitude she has eh?

Wow, I am a LOT more reactive to situations. Whilst on Cit I didn't react emotionally to things, but now I am very prickly.

I have more energy and I'm generally more upbeat most of the time.

I'm very surprised I've had no brain zaps or relapses, I will continue on this positive road and document any changes.
