    Citalopram.... A year on...

    Hi
For all of you just starting to use Citalopram and worried about whether it will work/side effects etc, then this is for you x

I was prescribed 20mg daily dose of Citalopram back in January 2010 for anxiety. (Ready my old posts) The first two weeks were awful with the dizziness side effects and I struggled with lack of sleep too. After 3/4 weeks I started to feel the old me was coming back and the sparkle came back. I could sleep properly, I felt like socialisng again and I could make plans for the future.

I've even moved house to a brand new location without any setbacks, and within the last 2 months i've been reduced to 10mg. I'm now weaning off and take 5mg once a week, so for all those who have doubts and cant see past the black days, please bare with it. I'm living proof that you can come out the other side.

    Good luck everyone xx

Ive just got some comfort from reading this post. Ive been prescribed citalopram today (20mg) for depression. Im so scared they wont work.. I feel like im putting my life and families happiness all into this one little tablet. Can I just ask what time of the day you took your meds?

Rach, give it a few weeks and within 6 or 7 you should know whether this is the right antidepressant for you. At the end of the day though, powerful thinking is probably more beneficial than any med. Whilst the meds will ultimately help change your mindset, the change has to come from within you too.
I too have started on Citalopram just Monday, it's gonna be a long hard battle to recovery, but I believe I can conquer this Wish you the best of luck too Rach.
Btw 80schick, thanks so much for sharing, really inspires hope to see a true tale of light at the end of the tunnel

Oh, and just for reference, I take mine midday.

Just wanted to say that stick with it. I am 5 months in on Cit. I started on 20mg for anxiety, had a tough first month with side effects and then depression kicked in for me, so my GP suggested I up to 30mg. I decided to try 25mg and it has worked wonders. Haven't had any depression since the new year and whilst I still get bouts of anxiety, I have the tools to manage them and to not let them get out of hand. I must stress though that I have been having counselling for the past 7 months, since this all started, which has been a godsend, the Cit has helped me think more clearly, and the counselling has helped me see what I want out of life and why I was feeling so unfulfilled. What I am trying to say really, that it is a combination of the 2 that is helping me, it's important to get to the bottom of why the anxiety and or depression has started. Good luck to you both.

    Well done 80schickx!

Positive posts on citalopram are really valued. Cit has been fantastic for myself also since starting them last June. Contemplating when the right time to start coming off them is at present.

By the way, I take mine in the evening with no problems.

If you came off now you'd have been on them for about 10 months yeah Happy? And maybe we should make a new thread asking for opinions?
