    Hi Irene

I also get something like this only I do believe it is caused by acid - it starts just as you describe as if battery acid is being poured in from the bottom of my neck and spreading down - I don't think it is as bad as yours but has felt as if it is going down into my legs, all down my arms. I believe it is a real problem of acid which then my anxiety takes over and/or the pain gets referred all over...

I am being treated for a hiatus hernia now so at least have had an explanation for the initial acid feelings but the doctor does not believe it causes all the pain I feel - the rest is my anxiety making it worse and worse.

Recovering from this type of anxiety is a long slow process of constantly trying to convince yourself, thinking positive thoughts, learning relaxation techniques, fighting to distract yourself and taking whatever help you can get in the form of anti-depressants if necessary, counselling (CBT is the most successful - you will find many references to it on this site), doing as much as you can to help yourself at all times. It is exhausting and a battle like with any other illness but one you most definitely can win - and you are not alone.

Remember to make a note of when you feel even a little bit better and focus on it and try and make it happen again....

I'm not sure how old you are but I wonder if you are menopausal like me? this makes everything much harder BUT at least you know it's not a permanent state!!!

    Good luck hun xxxxx

By the way Irene - have you been checked for things like a hernia or duodenitis? I had mine for years before I recently had a gastroscopy and it does help to know there was some kind of physiological root to it? I'm guessing you have from what you said, but thought I should ask!!

I suffer with IBS and a Hiatal Hernia and also Divaticulitis. I am also on HRT patches for menopause and have been for quite some time.

The burning sensation however, which is by far the worst thing for me is definitely not acid related as I say this was tested and ruled out for certain as the dcotors for qwuite some time attributed it to some possible acid build up or reflux which I told them all along it wasnt and I was right.
This burning sensation is excruciating however and I just am not able to get my head around it no matter how hard I try and focus it just overrides everything.

irine i have this at the moment, i have suffered from cronic chest pain for 4 years and it still frightens me.

i would love to talk to you more about it. it is sooo hard to live with isnt it. it is so hard to believe it is not damaging your heart because it is in such a crucial area. if it was in your big toe our fear would not be a s great would it

have you ever read any of claire weekes books?

i know how you feel. i am struggling at theminute as mine is soooo painful as we speak.

your not alone and i really hope we can help each other get through this

    Hi Irene
yes the burning was horrific i couldnt even stand to have any clothes next to my skin, mine was definately caused by anxiety as i still get it back and forward but its not so severe as i now know its anxiety and ignore it and it eventually goes away. E mail me if you want to discuss it further

I think they have left me to long . Like you if i touch anythingor cool air gets on my skin I am in agony.I had a shower this morning and the water was tepid but I felt like I had been scalded. They have said they think its due to trauma and my brain is getting pain signals but intensified fifty times I am at a loss. I do not want to carry on like this I cant handle it or get the brain thinking properlly again.

I don't know whether this might be any help to you but your story sounds very similar to my neighbours. She had a total knee replacement last November and suffered similar symptoms to you after taking a cocktail of painkillers and Morphine. After tests ruled everything out, she was referred to a specialist who diagnosed something called Fibromyalgia. I'm no expert on it but it can come on after a trauma and it's long list of symptoms include excruciating pain/burning in random parts of the body at random times. I think this disease is similar to arthritis and ME in someways. The good news is, although she was ill for a few months, she is now adjusting and feeling much better. I hope this helps. Clare. xx

They were looking at Fibromyalgia being a possibility at one point but the Neurologist ruled that out, which is why they are now thinking Chronic Anxiety and referring me to a psychologist..but if this burning doesnt abate I'll likely not get that far.

from Blossom I am not new to this site, but have not been in lately, I can reply to Irene about her mother and that burning sensation in the solar plexus area, I have had an endoscopy and told it was two errosions, due to the acid reflux. I was given Lansoprazole, but wont take them, as I am already addicted to Valium, and take Cipralex anti-meds, as I am agoraphobic, and have acute anxiety for many years. It did ease off for a few years, but 5 years ago they took me off Seroxat cold turkey, and had a dreadful time, and dont remember much about it. I do know that I have developed depression along with the other problems, and cry every day when I wake, as I ddont want to face another day of waiting to see how its going to be, I lie in bed until the afternoon sometimes, and dread getting up, I can understandd you mother, they tell me lying in bed is wrong, this I know, but the anxiety feeling is also dreadful so itslike a catch 22. I wish I could get up and be as I was before they took me off the Seroxat cold turkey. I can sympathise with your mother, and it must be hard for you, as my husband and cousin get quite frustrated with me, but I am also afraid of the new pills, and wont take them, as I read the side effects, and in the end one gets them. I would like my life back, or just to live without fear, and to be able to go out. I wish her well, and you are great looking after her like that Irene. I lost my mother, and keep looking back in the past. If anyone can suggest how to stop this crying I would be grateful. I do try.
All best wishes from Blossom x
