    new to fluoxetine

Hi, after having a rough time with citalopram my doctor has now prescribed me fluoxetine, but the doctor didnt mention when is the best time to take them or whether they should be taken with food or not, can anyone with experience of fluoxetine advise? also, what sort of side affects are to be expected with this drug?

    many thanks,

    Jodie

I toom fluoxetine for awhile. I always took it in the morning with breakfast. Side effects are similar to citalopram because they are both SSRIs. Personally I got a bit of nausea, loss of apetite for a few weeks, dry mouth and then throughout taking it very vivid, realistic dreams.

However everyone will have slightly different side effects this was just me.

check out the forum for citalopram, there is a really good guide there that I found really useful.

How quickly it works varies from person to person.

I am on week 9 and have finally had 2 ok days in sucession, so don't be worried if it takes time.

I'm on day 23 - switched from another AD and new to Prozac - and have lots of energy. Too much actually. I had a strong panic attack and had to take a Lorazepam to keep things under control.

    Hang in there!
