Thread: Pregnant, have breast issue, terrified.

    Pregnant, have breast issue, terrified.

I am around six months pregnant. A few weeks ago, I noticed a little painful lump, sort of red but nearly like a cyst, just next to my nipple.

At my last antenatal appt, I showed it to the doctor, who said it is most likely hormonal, not something to panic about, but to check on it again after the birth.

I trust my doctor, he is not at all dismissive of things, and he understands my anxiety issues, so why can I not accept him at his word? He said 'I'm not concerned about it being a cancerous growth, or anything like that, but we'll keep an eye on it, as you always err on the side of caution with anything breast related'. And in my head, this has translated as 'something is terribly wrong'. My husband pointed out, quite reasonably, that if he was in any way worried he would be referring me immediately, and in my heart I know that, but I'm still in a panic.

I tried to stop myself, but I googled. It didn't even come up with anything particularly horrendous, or even anything that really matched my symptom, but I am still a mess. Please help!

maybe it's this? "Small glands on the surface of the areolas called Montgomery's tubercles become raised bumps"
I could be just a cyst of some sort, your doctor seemed to think it was ok.
if you really can't stop being worried about it could you go back to your doctor and explain that your still worried.
I would try and leave it a few weeks to see if there is any change though.
maybe try putting some ice on it to see if it would help?
it could even be an acne type cyst, how big is it?

I think half the problem is that for about a month, I had noticed this and been fairly sure that it wasn't getting any bigger. As soon as the doctor told me to keep an eye on it, I have myself convinced that it has suddenly grown overnight, and its bigger every time I see it.

Anyway, I am now at the stage where I dread having my shower every day as it means I have to see it (it always appears bigger after a shower, when the skin is soft etc), and I'm trying to shower in the half dark, get dressed in the half dark, anything so that I don't have to see it.

From what I can gather if it's painful it's not going to be anthing serious, possibly the doc wants to keep an eye on it as it may cause problems if you are going to be breast feeding your baby. I think sometimes we just jump to the worst conclusion right away. X

Have you met your midwife yet? Whilst GP's can be very knowledeable, a midwife or Health Visitor has specialised knowledge of the female body whilst pregnant. They should be able to reassure you.
