    Cyst on ovary

So I’ve been experiencing some odd periods over the last few months and though that maybe I was entering perimenopause- I’m 46. I went to my GP & she referred me for an internal ultrasound which I had yesterday. They found a small cyst on my ovary & are referring me to a gynaecologist. That’s all they would tell me, so my health anxiety has gone haywire.

I had a normal smear this year.

Unfortunately I’ve been googling, and now I can’t think straight.

I need to get back on my rational thinking horse, but I can’t seem to find the saddle. I’m just consumed with negative thoughts at the moment.

Thought I’d write it all down in a safe place, I know none of us know what’s going to happen next, but I need to start grounding myself again.
Last Christmas I had all my gastric problems, and I was really hoping I’d get to enjoy this one worry-free for my little daughter.

Scass, you are always so kind and helpful to others on here and now it's your turn to get some support.

Of course your HA mindset will home into worst case scenario situations but many people have small ovarian cysts without even knowing they do. A gynaecologist will be able to take another look at the cyst, probably suggest some specific blood tests and have an expert opinion on what to do next, if anything other than monitor it for growth.

I know this is the last thing you want at Christmas though..I presume you have a routine appointment with the gynae? Has your GP suggested a CA125 blood test in conjunction with the internal scan? If not, could you ask for one? That's if you want one of course.

Please just keep on writing things down on here and we will all try to help you xx

    Thank you lovely Pulisa.
My GP asked me to get blood tests when she booked the ultrasound but I haven’t had them yet, will do that on Monday.

Going out for lunch with friends today, so that will hopefully help a lot.

    Re: Cyst on ovary

I've had one. Didn't even know I had it, but it was found when investigating something else. I was in hospital and the doctor didn't advise any treatment and it just went away of its own accord.
I think they are extremely common Scass. x

Thank you Carnation. I think it’s just because they referred me - it makes me think it’s not simple. But that’s partly irrational thinking I suppose.

I wouldn't over think this. It's a matter of routine and someone elses bag so to speak. I know that's easy to say when not in the driving seat, but women get these all the time. x

I know, i didn’t realise how common they were until I started my stupid googling.

Hard to be too gloomy when you’ve got a chirpy little 4 year old.

Does ANYONE stop for just a moment and think... wow I see all these people freak themselves out by googling, maybe I shouldn't?

Cysts are common, female issues deserve a gynecologist, glad you've been referred.

    Re: Cyst on ovary

The gynae will give you better advice than a GP can and you'll know that the cyst has been assessed by a specialist. They are very common but I expect you will want full reassurance from an expert which is only natural.

Hope the lunch went well and you got some distraction xx
