wisdom tooth infection AND oral thrush within a few weeks

has anyone else got oral thrush from antibiotic use? (i’m taking flagyl/metronidazole for the second time in 3 weeks - logically i know prolonged or repeated use makes it more likely to develop something like this)

i have decided that because of the pericoronitis taking SO long to go away, followed by the thrush in my gums, i obviously have some sort of terrible autoimmune disorder - or cancer - and am definitely you know, On the Brink

am i being insane?? last night i couldn’t sleep b/c of the possibility of the tooth infection spreading into my mouth floor and developing ludwig’s angina AND DYING!!!! tonight i can’t sleep b/c i’m afraid these two infections within a month mean I’M DYING!!!

i feel like bc i’m generally quite physically hardy there must be something TERRIBLY WRONG for my body to react like this, even though honestly the wisdom tooth infection has a pretty obvious cause (top wisdom tooth providing trauma to the bottom gums), and like! the thrush has a pretty ****ing obvious cause as well (two courses of antibiotics within a short space of time), but what if it’s not that, what if it’s ME DYING

Re: wisdom tooth infection AND oral thrush within a few weeks

When I had an infection due to a broken wisdom tooth it took me two courses of antibiotics to shift it. The first 5 days course wasn't quite enough and it started coming back (the pain) and I was given a 7 day course which did the trick.

It was a different antibiotic to yours so I can't say for the cause of oral thrush. But oral thrush is so common anyway, I've had it a few times in my life as I have asthma and it's a common risk for us because of the steroid inhalers.

Dentists are very good, it's a specialism. They know what to look for and they are also trained to spot oral cancers too and many other things so you have some reassurance there that if there was any doubt, they would have referred for the appropriate tests.

Many people have to have repeated antibiotic treatments and many have to switch them. Unless you are in a position where everything is failing, and that means multiple courses of X, Y & Z and the docs are running out of ones they can try, it's not ever worth thinking about anything like you are worrying about. Your current situation is very common.

Get some probiotics for your healthy bacteria levels as antibiotics kill them off and this also causes things like oral thrush. Just daily yoghurt helps there. I have a feeling that antibiotic is one of the harsher ones people have talked about on here so hopefully someone who knows more will post soon.

I don't know about antibiotics but when I go to the dark corners of irrationality I also think I am getting oral thrush because of autoimmune disorder or cancer. I am actually getting it because I use a steroid inhaler for asthma but takes some talking yourself down from the cancer argument when you have HA.
