    Advice about children please! (emetophobia)

To all those parents/teachers/child carers out there!

I am a teacher and I have a new child just started with ADHD. Amongst many of her other problems, she hates coming to school and always wants to go home early. (Nothing to do with us! She had a bad time at her old school). So anyway, to my point.

We were in assembly today and she asked to go to the toilet. I said no because she had just been 2 minutes before. So she proceeded to stick her fingers down her throat to make herself sick... OMG!!! (For anyone who doesn't know I have emetophobia - fear of vomit!).

As we were in assembly I couldn't ask anyone else to help so I just had to grab her (not literally you will be pleased to know) and take her out. Anyway, as she had got what she wanted, she stopped and didn't make herself sick, thank God!

So I did manage not to panic majorly although I was shaking (hopefully not visibly!) by time we went back in.

So I was just wondering if anyone has experience of things like this? I know there are a few teachers on here so any advice??? Why would a child do this?! What should I have done? And any advice on ADHD would be great as well. Hope its ok to post this here, it's kinda half about my phobia and half about my job!

If Mum is helpful, ensure its having fish oils daily.

My son George is 7 and lately he has been wetting the bed and sometimes himself at school etc and at times being difficult i have specialists looking into it because i feel its beyond just being a typical 7 yr old little boy. Being a mum i dont get mad with him i give him time and patience as much as i can and keep reasuring him, i think hes nervous about being a bit slow at school etc etc. i have told the teachers to let him go to the toilet when he wants to hoping that this will lessen the anxiety he has about wetting himself and this hopefully will give him some control and stop him worrying so much. he also has extra classes at school to to help with his development as he is so far behind his writing is not so good and he cant tie his shoe laces on his own and to be honest not very accademic at all, but is a thinker and a watcher and very clever with his hands and imagination.

    Hey Tammy and Sarah-Jane,

My little boy Sonny(6) has also got same symptoms, (wetting bed etc), and he has been on fish oil capsules for 7 months now. The differance in him is truly amazing. He is so much more co-operative, handwriting and reading improved, and his behaviour has changed too. This in turn has changed how he goes into school in the morning. He is a lot more confident, which means he is not dreading school daily.

This also helps with my anxiety as I am not dreading what the teacher will have to say to me at the end of the day as this was a big pressure for me.

    Hi,
thanks for your replies. I have mentioned it to Mum and she says she will consult the doctor as she is already on medication for the ADHD. I don't know whether I made myself very clear though so just to reiterate she does really like me and my LSA so the problem isn't with us, it's with the other children. Anyway, she was great today, came bounding in and said 'Aren't I a big girl coming in with no tears', bless her!! As far as I can tell she has no anxiety about being in school but getting along with other children. We are working on this slowly. Thanks for the suggestions
