    Sertraline and alcohol

I’m going on holiday soon and would really like to enjoy the occasional cocktail. I’m on 50mg sertraline. It says in the information leaflet not to drink alcohol. Anyone know what would happen if I did? I don’t plan on getting drunk, just the occasional tipple

Did you check with your pharmacist?

it will be fine as long as you only have a few....I drink occasionally on 100mg sertraline and have no ill effects.

You can drink alcohol while taking sertraline, but it could make you sleepy

    • If you drink alcohol, you can continue to drink alcohol while taking sertraline but having the two together might make you very sleepy and unsteady on your feet.
    • So, during the first few days, it might be best to stop drinking alcohol until you see how the medicine affects you or the side-effects pass.
    • If you want to drink alcohol, remember that you might be sleepy and make sure you can get home safely.
    • Drinking alcohol every day, or in large amounts, can make your symptoms worse and the sertraline will not get the best chance to act.

I take my Sertraline in the morning and my Bourbon in the afternoon - all good

Sertraline and alcohol really don’t mix well for me.

    Re: Sertraline and alcohol

    Hi

I don't really drink but I was on 200mg of sertraline and when i did go out I noticed for me I could drink lots more alcohol than normal.

normally, i would have been drunk off what i had as I had not been out in a long time but i was fine. the thing is everyone is different but that's what append for me anyway but 50mg is not a lot so just not sure.

They do say avoid alcohol so just be carefull and hope you have a good holiday if you have not been already.
