    Lightheaded and dizzy

    Hi
For about 3 months now I have been feeling lightheaded a lot of time and almost dizzy. I have been to the doctors a couple of time and been to Ear noise and throat specialist as well as a blood test all normal. I think I could put it down to stress and anxiety since I am moving house and also we are expecting our first child in November so it is overwhelming. It's very frustrating when I am 34 years old and never ill. I normally exercise a lot and have still managed to cycle a fair amount, maybe been over doing it a bit when not feeling quite right.
Any advice is much appreciated. Has anyone had this feeling of lightheadedness that eventually went away even after such a long time? Sometimes it feels like it might be getting better then it comes back. I also have a neck and shoulder tension for years so I have wondered if it could be from that and have been doing more stretches, not helped yet
    Many thanks for any help
    Dan

    Hi Dan,

I can have dizziness for weeks, primarily caused by stress. Comes in waves and then goes again.

I think it may be a symptom of anxiety?

    Hi
Many thanks for your reply. I do have days where it doesn't feel as bad and I'm hoping it is just stress and anxiety. I don't want to rush back to the doctors since I don't think they will find anything wrong with me, it's just a bit of a worry which I think ends up making it worse.
I'm going to wait till we have moved and see if it gets any better once that stress has gone.
    Thanks for any advice

    Re: Lightheaded and dizzy

Lightheadedness was the first symp of anxiety I felt 40 yrs ago
I was a young mother and had just had my first child. My DH wanted to go away and I was going to leave my son with my mother and DH's mother for a few days. It was also the first time I was going to fly.
I was sitting on the floor and a wave of lightheadedness overcame me.
I got very frightened and the monster was born
It eventually went away and other symps took its place
I call it the "rotating symp."
Just recently I had the lightheadedness again and of course it frightened it me. I have been under great stress so I believe that may be the reason as well as sinus/eustachain issues.
The problem with us anxiety sufferers is that we add fear to the various bodily sensations we feel. There are people I know who would feel the lightheadedness and totally be not bothered by it.
Fear fuels fear if that makes sense
Having health anxiety does not help so I suggest you keep Dr Google out of the picture.
If you have not read any of Claire Weekes books, I suggest you do. They are wonderful and mine are dog eared from so much use. One is "Peace from Nervous Suffering" another is "Hope and Help for your nerves."
The lightheadedness I have been speaking of is not vertigo in the sense of being on a carousel but more of a floaty, spacey feeling. Think of the feeling of going up in an elevator and the feeling one feels as the elevator is just about to stop at the next floor.
It is not an easy task but try not to add fear as best you can.
Get enough sleep and water and eat regularly.
Anxiety manifests itself in so many ways in terms of our symptoms and lightheadedness is certainly one of them
Let me know how you are doing

    Re: Lightheaded and dizzy

Stress, anxiety, and dizziness are joined at the hip. In tests, deliberately raised cortisol levels (which is what stress does) have caused animals to become off-balanced. Obviously it's impossible to do a test like that in humans but reasonable to assume the effects are similar.

The dizzy/imbalance/light-headed group is probably the #1 type of physical symptom anxiety sufferers deal with, either that or gut issues I bet. Considering you've been examined by a few doctors and you've got life-changing events in the near future, anx is by far the most likely cause. Try to take extra care to "self-care" especially now.

    Hi,

I suffer from head pressure / dizziness / balance issues which seem to be worse in environments where I am not happy. Just getting through each working day is a nightmare, have had MRI scan which came back as clear and prescibed meds but still feel awful - it's just vile.

yes - also make a dr appointment as your blood pressure could be too low which causes dizziness and light headedness
