What can a stress ECG tell that a resting one cannot?

    Hi
It can possibly identify areas of the heart that may not be getting enough oxygen at times of exercise. This would be evident by changes in the tracing. An ECG looks at the heart from 12 different angles.
    Hope this helps.

would you say a normal ECG is enough to rule out most heart defects or conditions?

Yes because if its not normal then they would send you for further tests, even an abnormal result can be normal if that makes sence.
Mines always abnormal and have had to echocardiagrams just to check, last time I asked if I needed a stress one, the Lady performing it laughed and said I didn't need one as my heart was pumping so fast due to anxiety that that was enough.
