EMDR

Has anybody any experience of EMDR therapy for processing trauma? Was it successful? Did it render your symptoms worse for a bit?

I am beginning after Christmas and feel really hopeful, but some part of me feels very aware that this feels like my last chance. I feel as though if this doesn't work then there's nothing left that will.

Tia, Emma. Xxx

Re: EMDR

Emma, when people used to raise threads like this a couple of years ago a doctor used to pop up posting information about her work in this form of therapy in the US. It was very detailed stuff and worth a read.

This might be her:

Re: EMDR

I had EMDR back in 2006 to resolve flashbacks I was having about being hit by a car as a kid. I had two sessions and never had another flashback. Whether or not that was the EMDR I can't say for certain, as I was also in talk therapy. My symptoms didn't get worse either.

Re: EMDR

That's amazing to hear Snowy, that's really encouraging. Thank you for your reply. I am having flashbacks daily but they have only 'come out' because of therapy, So EMDR seems like the next logical step to me.

Did you notice an improvement after your first session? X

Re: EMDR

The flashbacks only started for me when I was in therapy too. After the first session I never had another flashback, so I guess it worked, and it certainly didn't make me worse thank God
