    TMJ tingling and burning? anyone?

    Hi Everyone

Just wondering if anyone has experienced burning and tingling with their TMJ issues?

Ive been back and forth doctors for the last few weeks with tingling and sensitivity across my left jaw and cheek. Ive seen a neurologist and had and MRI to rule out things like MS which I've had the all clear for. Im starting to wonder now if this is the early stages of TMD...

Initially my symptoms began with a twitchiness (sensation not visible) around my lip with a weird "numb but not numb" sensation across the cheek. This developed into a burning sensation around my TMJ area after a week or two. Day to day the sensations are always there, anything from a sensation of pressure on the TMJ, to burning which radiates down my jaw line and into my chin. This makes the skin on my left cheek very sensitive.

My jaw is clicky (not constantly but it does click and creak a fair bit) with the occasional loud crack if I over do it which is followed by a lot of pain. These loud cracks have only happened a few times but they are very painful when they do occur.

My biggest issue is this weird burning/tingling that I seem to have most of the time. I know have bad posture (forward head through working at a desk!) and I do have a lot of shoulder tension on the same side. Its possible that the issues are more to do with my muscles than my actual joint if that makes any sense? just a theory...

Anyone out there that can relate to this? thinking of seeing a chiropractor because the burning/tingling/sensitivity is driving me mad!

    Thanks!

I really don't understand this TMJ thing, I keep hearing about it. My whole life Ive had clicking in my jaw area, clicking sensation when I yawn really deep, other weird sensations in facial area but never thought anything of it.

is TMJ only about the face? Never understood it.

I worked in the dental field for years., TMJ/TMD is a disorder of the jaw, your jaw bone is attached to the lower half your skull. There is a small disc in this joint as well. I would suggest to both of you to see an Oral Surgeon. Each individual person has pain in different areas, facial muscles sore from clenching, it varies. i would suggest an evaluation by a specialist.
