I have depression and anxiety and it makes life nearly impossible most days. It gets damn near unbearable having people tell you to get over it every day and having people question you about it. A little advice for anyone who doesn't know how to avoid or get rid of these situations and WANTS to so you can go back into your own head: Make a joke. People tend to be very easy to steer onto a different track most of the time. My personal favorite when people ask what I'm feeling is to say "Depression and anxiety disorders at the same time is like wanting to kill yourself but being to stressed about how to do it to actually do it." They laugh. It's a funny way of saying a painful truth, but they let it go.

Sometimes making people laugh is the easiest and nicest way to get attention focused on something else so you can do what it is that you need to breathe.
